With its plain surface, Dorton sits firmly within Sanderson's design language. The house was founded in 1860 by Arthur Sanderson in Islington, London.

The pattern repeat is 1.0 cm, which makes it a small repeat. The small scale keeps the pattern discreet enough to carry an entire room. A straight pattern match makes hanging straightforward. Dorton is available in 40 colourways — Antique Gold, Chilli, Cactus and Orchid, among others. The difference between them is greater than you might think — the same pattern can create either a muted or a bright room.

Dorton is part of the Dorton Velvets collection from Sanderson. The velvet catches the light and gives the pattern a depth that a print on a flat weave cannot reach.

The fabric is 148 cm wide and woven in 100% polyester. At 100 000 rubs on the Martindale scale, it comfortably withstands upholstery use in the home.

The pattern works particularly well in living rooms and bedrooms. The look has a classic poise, closeness to nature and sophisticated restraint, with a medium-light base tone. Large-scale motifs are at their best on curtains and larger surfaces, smaller ones on cushions and details.

Feel free to order a sample before deciding — printed colours behave differently on a wall than on a screen.
