With its abstract form, Icaria sits firmly within Sanderson's design language. The house was founded in 1860 by Arthur Sanderson in Islington, London.

The pattern repeat is 1.0 cm, which makes it a small repeat. The small scale makes the pattern discreet enough to carry an entire room. The pattern is a straight match, which simplifies making up. Icaria is available in 11 colourways — Amethyst, Birch, Blackcurrant and Evergreen among others. The difference between them is greater than you might think — the same pattern can give you a muted room or a bright one.

Icaria is part of Sanderson's Icaria and Boho Velvets collection. The velvet catches the light and gives the pattern a depth that a print on a flat weave cannot reach.

The fabric is 140 cm wide and woven in a cotton blend. At 40 000 rubs on the Martindale scale, it comfortably withstands domestic upholstery use.

The pattern works particularly well in living rooms and bedrooms. Its character combines elegance, sophisticated restraint and a classic poise, on a dark base tone. Large-scale motifs show to best advantage on curtains and larger surfaces, less so on cushions and details.
