The designer behind Golden Lily is John Henry Dearle, who drew the pattern in 1899. It is one of the motifs that have carried Morris & Co through more than a century without feeling dated. John Henry Dearle joined Morris & Co as an apprentice, learned the craft in the workshop and became the company's chief designer after William Morris's death in 1896.

The pattern repeat is 53.0 cm, which makes it a medium repeat. The scale is well judged — the pattern reads clearly without dominating the wall. The pattern is a straight match, which makes hanging easier. Golden Lily comes in 2 colourways — Green/Gold and Midnight/Green. Golden Lily comes from Morris 160th Anniversary.

The fabric is 137 cm wide and woven in a linen blend. At 40 000 rubs on the Martindale scale, it handles upholstery in a home setting with a good margin.

Golden Lily is shown to best advantage in living rooms and bedrooms. The look has a classic poise, closeness to nature and timelessness, with a medium-light overall tone. Mix with plain fabrics for balance, and place the pattern where it will be seen.
