Pure Marigold dates from 1875 and was drawn by William Morris. The pattern is based on observed nature rather than ornament, and that difference is what keeps it working today.
The pattern repeat is 32.0 cm, which makes it a medium-sized repeat. It is a size that works in both small and large rooms. A straight match makes hanging straightforward. Pure Marigold comes in 3 colourways — Soft Gilver, Black Ink and Cloud Grey. The difference between them is greater than you might think — the same pattern can give you a muted room or a light one.
Pure Marigold is part of Pure Morris North from Morris & Co. The Pure series keeps the patterns in white, linen and grey, letting texture rather than colour carry the look. It works where a full-colour pattern would be too much.
Each roll is 68.6 cm wide and 10.05 metres long, printed on paper. The weight is 185 g/m².
The pattern works particularly well in living rooms and hallways. The look has a classic poise, elegance and sophisticated restraint, with a very dark overall tone. Let the wall do the talking and keep the upholstery fabrics calm.
You may want to order a sample before you decide — printed colours behave differently on a wall than on a screen.
